About Boynton Beach
Boynton Beach, Florida is located in Palm Beach County. Known as the City of Beautiful Beaches and Wonderful Parks, Boynton Beach is situated between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. Our city boasts a perfect climate year round and has a wide range of things to do. This guide provides you with all the information you will need for a great visit to our beautiful city.
The history of Boynton Beach dates back to 1890 when Dr. N.L Warren and Mr. R.W. Shindler purchased a small island and moved there with their families in hopes to live off the land by growing vegetables, and fishing in the nearby waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Almost immediately after purchasing the property, Dr. Warren realized that people wanted to vacation at a beach area close to Palm Beach but it would take five hours to get there by boat. He decided that he could build a town on his little island and named it Ocean Breeze in 1894 but then changed the name after being persuaded by his neighbor who bought the land next door, Rosalie Hoecker de Rosemond (a descendant of Don Raimundo Riveracillo who was awarded the Spanish Royal Grant for land that lay between Jupiter Inlet and Jupiter Bay). She convinced him to rename it Boynton Beach after her husband's last name ? Boynton."
